RANTZ 'N RAVZ
A few letters from our purrrrrrfectly wonderful clients.
Jean, I thought I would send you a picture of Maui. She is doing great. She never had that virus so the Vet was wrong. Anyway, she is a very special cat. We all love her very much. She plays nonstop except for eating and sleeping. She likes to sleep with us under our blanket. She is the most awesome cat I have ever seen! She is very smart and obedient. She loves to play with the older cat and chase her around until the Russian blue roughs her up a little. But Maui, is tough. She keeps playing and tackling the much larger cat. They don't fight and the Russian Blue does not hurt Maui. Maui is tiny cat. Is she still growing? **How big does a full grown female weigh? My wife says we will wait a few more months for her to mature and then take her for surgery to prevent pregnancy. Once that is completed, we will send you the paperwork. Anyway, I am so happy with the cat and it was worth the trip to Texas to buy her. Thank you for such a fine animal. Best regards, Niehaus Family ** Burmese are smaller cats than Russian Blues. Will weight between 5 and 7 lbs as an adult.
Dear Suzy - By all means, please add our letter to your "Rantz 'n Raves" page. And if you ever have need of reccomendation - I would be glad to give it. It is obvious that you really care about your cats and kittens because Zoe is just the picture of health. Even my vet commented on how healthy and beautiful she is - impressed by the obvious high standard of your cattery.
I will be sending pictures
soon.
Take care!
Leah
Hi Jean,
Wanted to give you an update on Caruso (Enrico Caruso il Divo). He is
everything I hoped for and has settled in very nicely. He and Coco began
playing yesterday and are interacting with each other calmly and with mutual
respect. You are to be congratulated on a wonderful job of socializing this
little fellow. His visit to the vet on Tuesday was uneventful and he was
admired by all.
I'll keep you posted and send photos. Best regards & thank you,
Diana - Wisconsin
This is a letter of reference sent to a prospective client. WOW. Who could ask for more?
To begin with, I've never been asked to compose a reference for something
like this. For that reason, you'll notice that I "carboned"
Jean on this. If she doesn't like my comments, she'll know not to ask me
again.
Suzy,
I thought I'd write to let you know
our kitten is doing great! We decided to name him Cairo. Monday he
went to the vet and received a clean bill of health.
The vet was impressed with the letter
you sent for me to give to him and even made a copy to keep in Cairo's
file. He agreed with all of your recommendations and said you were very
well informed.
Well, Cairo came out of his carrier
purring and has barely stopped since! When we got home he played for 2
hours straight in my bedroom which I set up for him.
That meant the whole family stayed up
until after midnight. He hasn't had any adjustment problems except he
still is not liking the dog,but we are still keeping them separate with
short introductions now and then. He doesn't seem to eat a whole
lot, mostly because he never stops moving.( I make sure he gets his
vitamins every day ) Then he is worn out and sleeps hard. The first
night he was right under the covers and has been every night since---can
they really breathe in there? Any time we can't find him, we look for
the tell-tale little lump in the covers at the end of the bed. Then the
second you pet him starts purring and rolling on his back, etc
He is already perching on my
shoulder to ride around. One cool thing was the second night i was
looking at the kitty pictures on your website when Cairo came off my
shoulder meowing and when right up to the screen and started pawing at
the cat photos! Maybe he recognized someone?
Our only concern is that he plays
really hard with us --like biting and scratching. If the kids are in
bed , he jumps on and goes under the covers and bites their feet. He
bites feet alot. The worst time is in the late evening-so if that
happens we leave him alone a while. We also work on giving him a rolled
up sock or toy to chew on when he starts biting...any other
suggestions? We have a scratching post and he took to using it right
away.
Thanks for a great kitten...he is
everything I was looking for and more.
Lisa
Ms.Motas,
The "executive summary" is that the baby
has taken over the entire household as his own. Gayle and I estimated that
it would take the baby 5 to 7 days to become accustomed and accept the dogs
in our life (Ashton, M 8 mo. and Holly F 3 yrs.). We were wrong, the
process took less than 24 hours as demonstrated by the photos of the baby,
Ashton (left) and Holly (right) all sitting in Gayle's lap quite happy.
As I'm sure you must know, the baby is very
opinionated, vocal and generally spoiled.
A very sweet kitten which demonstrates your
care and raising.
Thanks,
Eddie Edwards

I just wanted to let you know how
wonderful the kitten is. "Dang" settled right in.
He is not timid at all and really did not seem to be traumatized by
leaving his family. Of course, he got non-stop attention
from all of us and was basically held by someone for the first 48 hours
after arriving at the house. He ended up sleeping with Mother and
was really great. He cuddled at her chest and slept through the
night for all three nights. I believe that will be his permanent
sleeping arrangement. He is a real people cat and Mother and Daddy
are already very attached to him. I have a feeling he will be
ruling the house. He already has figured out how to tell them he
wants wet cat food by going in the kitchen and demanding it.
Thanks again for producing such wonderful kitties. You do a great
job of socializing them. I am sure having those boys around helps.
Please give Mother and Daddy a call the next time you are going to
Longview. I know they would like you to come by and see
"Dang".
Clare Dawson Brown is the Asst. Attorney General for the State of Texas. Her dad is a retired Longview, Texas vet
You
have probably already found a home for Carly but if you have not my
daughter would love to have her. We are so happy with
Sinjuin. I am afraid that he is spoiled rotten. He comes up
to us and holds his little arms up and meows. He will not stop
until we pick him up and hold him. My family fights over who gets
to hold him. He even helps me when I am riding my bike. He
thinks that is his time to take a bath while I am holding him. I
will send you a picture of him as soon as I can get a good one.
If
you ever need a home for any of your precious little ones please let me
know. I spoke to a lady that was wanting to put her cat up for
adoption. She received him from a cheaper breeder and got what she
paid for. He is not very loveable and does not like to be held or
petted. He also roams the neighborhood. I am telling you
this because I want to let you know that I appreciate the quality of
your cats. S. Ramsey (Thank you. We work very hard
to have wonderful indoor kittens. CDG)
. . . . . .Bubbles (Bubs, as we call
her) and Blue (Mr. B) are doing just fine. They are a little over 2
yrs. old now. They are the light of our lives! I can't
tell you how much we love those kitties. And they are soooo
spoiled. People kid us all the time because we treat them better
than most humans.
Bubbles is a tiny little girl, very vocal
and is the "purring queen". She loves to jump up on
you and perch on your shoulder. She rides around everywhere with
you.
Blue is definitely the "alpha"
and lets Bubbles curl up in our laps when he thinks she should.
He is such a jealous little toot. He has a ritual every night....when
the lights go out he chows down and then jumps up on the bed, roots
around and licks you in the face until you lift the covers for him.
Then he sprawls out underneath til he gets hot at which time he moves
up, lays out flat with his head on the middle pillow and body under
the covers...between Rusty and I. When Bubs jumps up he must
give her a look cuz she won't sleep with us. He sometimes chases her
off the bed. Poor baby! Now, he does let her sleep under the
covers in the winter when it's cold, although they've had a spat about
that one on occasion.
They have beds all over our house...a
basket in Rusty's closet, one in the kitchen window for sunning, one
in the study that was their first bed and their favorite....one on top
of the refrigerator. They sleep in all of them...I think they rotate
when they get bored.
Bubbles has a thing about
"strings". HA! Rusty and I laugh becuz every night she
cries for you to get it down and play with her. If you ask her
if she wants the string, she runs into the closet and paces until you
get it down. Rusty laughs and says she must be saying "My
life is the string!"
Anyway, we can't tell you how much we
appreciate you blessing us with such sweet kitties. This breed
is everything they say about them. They truly are the most
"people oriented"... very affectionate, smart and
wanting to be near you all the time. And we are so glad we got
two of them because one would have been too lonely. They are
great company for each other and love to chase each other and play.
Kim, Rusty, Bubbles and Blue
Lady Godiva is an absolute joy to us and is very spoiled. She is not happy unless she is sitting and purring in someone's lap. She is so playful and loving. I never knew a cat could be so affectionate and adorable. We would like for her to have a playmate. We would like another female champagne. Thanks again for being an honest, caring, breeder who brings joy to so many families. Vi Waldner
Just thought you'd like to
know that Elsie seems very well adjusted and happy here. She is an
absolute delight to have around, and the other 4 cats have become her
friends. She sleeps under the covers with us at night (she's a
great heat source!) and has a tremendous amount of fun playing and
scampering about all day.
Thanks again for her, she
was absolutely worth the wait!

I have been so negligent in keeping you up to date about how Gus is doing.
Gus is amazing. He alternates between thinking he is a person and thinking he is a dog! He is so affectionate and has bonded with Herb to the point that he thinks Herb is one giant sibling and meant for constant play time. Herb made the mistake of letting Gus sleep with us when he first came to us - thinking that he could later ban him from the bed. Ha! Our vet laughed out loud at that! Gus starts out on top of the comforter, but around 4:00 a.m., he snuggles under, usually between us, but sometimes at Herb's feet! Nothing is too high for him to climb, he loves water out of the faucet, paper bags and cardboard boxes were created exclusively as playthings for him, he loves socks and we can usually find one in his food dish, he eats less now [couldn't believe how much a kitten could eat!] but still manages one can of Sheba and a good bit of dry food each day. He never sees a stranger. When the doorbell rings, he runs to see who has come to visit him! He is just the best little companion ever. Although, I am quite allergic to the little guy. Much more so than I was to his dear departed Uncle Moose the Maine Coon. Good thing I take allergy meds everyday! He loves being "massaged" with this knobby little "brush" I bought at Pets Mart. When I pick it up, he flattens himself on the floor and immediately starts purring. He is also part monkey, I think. His antics are just amazing. He tears through the house sometimes like a streak of lightning. He sometimes runs from bath tub to bath tub [they are completely across the house from each other - quite a long way]. He starts out in one - jumps out, runs like the wind all through the house, into the other tub, out again and back to the other one. [Of course there is no water in them!!] Oh, and by the way, he is not afraid of water. We tried the water spritzer to train him not to get on the counters and when he was teething and wanted to chew our hands - but, he liked it so much we had to switch to an alternate Gus Buster - a can of air that you use to clean your electronics with. The Vet recommended it - we just have to pick it up and spritz the air - not even directed at him. But I never knew a cat could love water so much - he likes to play in it, doesn't mind being wet, and you give him an ice cube in his water dish and we have a mess all over the kitchen.
He was just the best little kitten - our vet was very impressed with how socialized he was, and as they had never seen a blue Burmese, he is quite the popular kitty when we have to go for nail trimming! I'll be in touch with the altering information - and I'll send some recent photos. Thanks again for such a wonderful creature! He is just the best. S Klein San Antonio
Jean,
You done good, lady. This little love-bug
is so cool I can hardly believe it. He allowed me to rub his chin on the
ride home; we got here around noon. I showed him all the facilities; he
wasn't interested in eating and after a few minutes he disappeared.
Snowflake had disappeared as well, but it turned out I had managed to
lock her in an unused bedroom unknowingly, so having found her I set
about searching for SnowDrift. He was the first place I looked - behind
the washer / dryer. I tried to encourage him to come out but he stayed
there for a couple of hours. I moved the machines a little so he would
have several ways to exit.
In the evening he came alive. So
energetic, he played with everything in sight. He and SnowFlake seem
mildly interested in each other, no hostilities or anything like that. I
was so busy handling him, getting him used to being touched by me, and
playing with him that hours went by quickly and I got no work-work done.
Eventually he wolfed down a half can of Nutro Max Kitten stuff and
played some more. Then I lay on the floor on my side and he went happily
off to sleep listening to me breathe and to my heartbeat. Today he did
this again. I think it sooths me. He's so warm and cuddly.
Today, Sunday, I awoke with him cuddled
right beside me on the bed. He ate, and I opened the door to two of my
computer rooms with the intention of doing some work.
Then he totally disappeared. Snowflake
wasn't about to tell. I presume he explored the computer rooms.
This evening was a repeat of last evening
except that I picked up one of those red laser pointer things and he had
a lot of fun chasing it. Tired him out and he took another catnap atop
me trying to read.
I've probably had a dozen or more cats in
my life, but this one is so unique, so bright and full of curiosity and
fun and he looks at me with those bright little eyes. I'm really glad I
got him. Of course I didn't think I wouldn't be, but...
Anyway, the first ten weeks is so very
important and I can tell that he came from a loving environment -- this
is a super present from me to me and I want to thank you for doing such
a super job of raising him (and helping his CatMommie raise him).
I think SnowFlake is reconsidering the
CatMommie thing. The jury is out. We'll see. I give her equal time, well
almost. She's helped groom SnowDrift a little -- a token lick or two,
probably she thought I wasn't looking. I think she's embarrassed by it
but will no doubt do more of it. He licks both me and SnowFlake, so turn
about is fair play (except I don't lick cats....)
We;re all going through "a little
period of adjustment" here I guess. I mean, it took SnowFlake about
two years of having one of those fluffy cat bed things right by where
she sleeps when not sleeping on the bed. She had just settled into it
the last couple of months, and now I think SnowDrift has designs on it,
so to speak. Even though I bought him a new one, adjustable size and
everything. With catnip already. He prefers hers so far but mostly plays
in it. Sleeping at night so far is right beside me with SnowFlake
grumbling and jumping around, keeping everyone awake. Like I say, a
little period of adjustment.
Thanks again.

Hi Jean!
Just wanted to let you know a few things. First Mike and I have moved. It's a much bigger place with hard wood floors. The immense entertainment we get from watching Minkie slide across the floor to get Mr. Mousie was worth all the moving hassle.
Minkie (or Minkie Weasel as she has come to be known) is an absolute joy! We had her spayed in February (laser surgery, IV, the whole nine yards) and she came through with no problems at all (need to send you the paperwork). Her fur has already grown back completely. The vet's office LOVES her. They called to check on her after her surgery and said she was "an absolute doll" and everyone there was in love with her. Who can blame them? Bast and Brindle love her most of the time. But as they are both 10 years old, her constant playing does get to be a bit much at times. But they've each established hiding places as their Minkie-free zones. They are both picking up some of her habits however. They've both become more vocal and Bast, who was never fond of being picked up, is now quite amenable to it. Unfortunately, they've both also taken to climbing on the kitchen counters while I'm making dinner and try to steal off with food---just like Minkie taught them! Oh well.
If you ever need a reference from this part of the country or anyone is worried about shipping one of your beautiful kitties, just refer them to me. I'll sing your praises and vouch that Mink suffered no problems from her plane ride. I'm including my latest favorite shot. Talk about an under the covers kitty! Take care, Amy, Mike, Bast, Brindle and Minkie . Richmond VA
Hi, I'm just now getting around to sending you proof of Oscar's spaying. Oscar's doing really well. He loves our new house. The previous owners were serious dog lovers, so the house's flooring is over one-half ceramic tile, which is good for Oscar when he starts going with his mouse. I read the letters from other Burmese owners on your website, and I am assured that Oscar is 100% Burmese (not that I suspected he wasn't!). He does all those things - helps me load the dishwasher, type e-mails, etc. All my friends want a Burmese now. Thanks for everything, C. Shetlar
Jean:I appreciate and love the way you talk about your babies and that you love them so much - your job (if you can call it that) must be very rewarding. Thanks again and we will be in touch. S. Bender
Just to let you know you were right. This little male kitten is precious. He is also curious, inquisitive, playful and loving. Took him to the vet on Mon. following take home on Fri. because of some vomiting, runny eyes and lassitude. He felt it was minor illness due to the stress of the change. The vet seems to be right as he was back in the full swing of kittenhood within 24 hours. Thanks for such a good one. L. Turner
Just wanted to send you a note to tell you how truly happy I am with the TWO kittens that I have gotten from Jean Motas. I have a Sable Male, Jingle who is 16 weeks old and a Blue Female, Belle who is 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet on Saturday for some shots and was told by the vet that the breeder I got them from must really know what she is doing because they are perfect kittens. I was told a number of times before I got them that once I got a Burmese kitten I would never want any other kind. Now I know it is true. They are perfect, loving and funny kittens. My female is somewhat independent but still loves to cuddle. The male is fairly convinced that the world revolves around him and insists on being the center of attention most of the time. He never meets a stranger! He is hysterical. Everybody at the vets office loves them. When I took them in on Saturday for some shots, the receptionist announced as I walked in with them, "They're here!" and people came running out of the back to see them. My vet was carrying both of them around the office showing them to all the other vets. It was a good hour before I got them back!!! I am so happy that I got two of them instead of just one. Thanks again! Warmest Regards, S. Meyer
Jean, We love the new kitten Rio. She has gotten really fat. She is so sweet we love her very much. She loves to play. Thank you for making this cata part of our lives. From the Children of the Shay Family More from the Shays: Dear Jean, Rio is doing just great!! She is eating like a pig, wears herself out playing with the other cats, and takes long naps with anybody that is available for some quiet time!! She loves to get under the covers, at first we were a little worried sleeping with her but now that she is bigger I'm sure she can take care of herself. She is such a sweetheart, and she really seems to have adjusted so well to our household. She is very popular with the whole family and my 89 year old grandmother keeps requesting that I bring her over to meet her (Grandma just got out of the hospital due to pneumonia.) We absolutely love Rio and thank you for how wonderful she is!! We just got a digital camera so I will send pictures as soon as I figure it out! Hope you are doing great!! J. Shay
Dear Jean... The kids are just doing fantastically. The had adapted to the house and us almost instantly. Their intelligence at this age just blows me away. They're so smart it's scary. And they are so loving. I don't know why we bought the cat bed as they won't use it and have to sleep with us at night. Sometimes I take a little nap in the afternoon while their playing and before long they are plastered next to me and napping too. They are starting to recoqnize and respond to their names and are beginning to understand what NO is. They bring us their toy mice to play with and will retrieve them when we toss them. They love they tile floor in the kitchen and bat those mice and chase them all over the place. They play wrestle so hard that sometimes I think they'll hurt each other. But their bond to each other is amazing. When they sleep, eat or use the potty they have to be close to each other. No trouble with potty training. The first time we showed it to them they jumped in and used them. The biggest challenge now is teaching them that they can't eat off of the table but they sure know where their food comes from as they sit by the refridgerator door and let us know it's time for chow. They eat good, both science and soft food. That Tiffer is a real chow hound. They are really growing and that Tara is a real tease. She agitates Tiffer into to a play fight by turning her back on him and swishes her tail....the chase is on. I could go on for pages and we sure wish you would come and visit them whenever you can. Those two are a real blessing and a joy...thanks to you. 'Nuff for now and do come visit. PS I think our coming often and visiting them and handling them mad all the difference in the world in the way they have adapted.....Bless you........M. Jackie and Papa Moose
Dear Jean Rio is sitting
and reading this as I write. She is
doing great, quite a cuddler. She is so tiny, she only weighs 5 1/2
lbs.! She will
always look like a kitten, and she is adorable. She has a dual
personality, she
sometimes acts like a bratty adolescent, but usually she wants to be in
your
lap. She loves to wrestle with my other two cats, and she gets
along well
with the dogs too.
